![]() ![]() I am going to replace the tires (new Schwalbe Marathon GreenGuard 700x35), cassette, chain, brake / gear cables, and handlebar tape. It appears the previous owner swapped out / upgraded parts as it has Shimano RSX brakes (model br-1050), Shimano Deore XT groupset, matrix titan 700c MiUSA wheels. The frame is in very good shape with only a few scratches, no rust. I recently purchased what I believe to be a 1983 Trek 520 for $150 on Facebook marketplace. The only decal in fairly poor shape is the vertical "Trek" decal which I'm trying to replace but am having trouble. It is in the original Pewter Grey and has the "Trek" and "Reynolds 501" stickers consistent with the 1983 model year. My doubts stem from the fact I cannot find the serial number on the bottom bracket and many of the parts are not standard for the bike. The previous owner listed the 520 but did not include the model year. I thought I was editing the existing post but it seems I created a new one. In that vein, what has led you to believe it's a 1983 Trek 520? What gives you doubts? Is the paint original or is it repainted/powder coated? Are all the decals in bad shape or only the seat tube ones (as you mentioned in another thread)? What color is it? '83 520s came in pewter grey or medium blue. Thanks for getting back to me and sorry for the double post. ![]() As we go back and forth here, once you get to 10 posts (5 per day over two days, at quickest, IIRC), you can post photos, which will help us identify the bike if it is devoid of them. ![]()
